Further increase in Lindholmen Science Park companies

Lindholmen Science Park continues to grow. In the past year the number of companies has increased from 224 to 275. These have some 9000 employees; in addition there are about 9000 students.

The previous crisis in the automotive industry has had no negative effect on Lindholmen Science Park where activity, on the contrary, has continued to increase. There are at present 275 companies in the area, an increase of 51 over the past year. The total number of employees has, however, decreased somewhat to 9000.

"It is very gratifying to see that we are still expanding despite a tough start of the year. From the point of view of the development of Lindholmen Science Park, this increase in the number of companies entails, in turn, an increase in 'in house' competence. We take it as confirmation that companies value the added value given by Lindholmen Science Park, where integration in a strong cluster and close coordination with the university is important for continued growth. At present the majority of companies need to recruit, and, moreover, are having difficulty finding the necessary expertise," says Niklas Wahlberg, CEO of Lindholmen Science Park.

The current expansion of Lindholmen Science Park with two new buildings (Lindholmen Science Park's main building ready for occupation during autumn 2010 and Kuggen ready for occupation from April 2011) will provide for several companies in need of more floor space. Syntronic, Brandon, Enfo and Dynagraph are examples of companies that, over the past year, have chosen to establish their head offices on Lindholmspiren. VTI has also chosen to expand its operations at Lindholmen Science Park and is presently building a world class vehicle simulator. This continued expansion will also enhance the development of Lindholmen Science Park's research and development environment.

At the time of the survey, before summer, the number of students was unchanged. There are over 9000 students in the area today, of which about 4200 are university students.
