Transportation security
The Security Arena also performs projects regarding the security of overland transports, including port areas. Some examples are increased safety in transports of dangerous goods, pharmaceutical transports in general and in the event of a pandemia, and security of transports through a port.
Pilot projects in the field
One example is the Hamnpiloten (Port Pilot) project, which took place in Göteborg in 2008 with a continuation in 2009 and 2010. Aiming to improve the efficiency and security of goods transports through ports, the project involved Stena Line, DSV, Swedish Customs, Volvo, Saab and Wackfelts Åkeri – all key players in port traffic. New functions have already been developed to speed up goods flows, which in itself leads to a reduced risk of theft and greater security.
Volvo Technology headed the Hamnpiloten project on the assignment of the Security Arena and the Lindholmen Science Park. The pilot project was based on an in-depth needs analysis from the players involved, and the study focused on a transport chain using trucks departing from a terminal on Hisingen in Göteborg until the goods are loaded on a ship at the Germany terminal.
